Last year, Thokar No. 8 was demolished with less than 24 hours notice given to the residents, some of whom had lived there for nearly 20 years. Dr Kiran Martin, other Asha staff members and the slum dwellers did their very best to get the decision reversed, but the government still ordered the demolition to go ahead.
