How you can help

Fundraising

We're always grateful for any funds that can be raised on our behalf. Whether you are holding a stall at a local fete or running a marathon, your profits or sponsorship can make a real difference to people in the slums of Delhi. Fundraising at public occasions has the additional benefit of allowing other people hear about Asha and its work. Just email us at info@asha-india.org or go to the Contact Us page if you need any leaflets, brochures or other means of letting people learn more about what we do.

Sponsored events

Sponsored events are a great way of raising money. You could be sponsored to not do something for 24 hours (speak, eat, smoke etc) or for doing something continuously (singing, chess-playing, walking). Sporty people could do a sponsored swim, run or cycle ride. More adventurous people could do a bungee jump, skydive or climb a mountain.

De-cluttering

You can raise money for Asha by getting rid of unwanted possessions at a car boot sale or using an online auction site such as Ebay. If you're selling items in person, make sure that people know where the proceeds are going and buyers will be less likely to haggle over the price!

Dress-down/ dress up days

Lots of people are often keen to break the routine of office life by paying a small amount in return for being allowed to go to work dressed casually or just differently. You could choose a theme for a particular day, or just a letter of the alphabet and ask people to come to work dressed as something beginning with that letter.

Quiz evenings

Hold a quiz night at a local pub or community centre and charge per person or a larger amount per team. It's usually easy to find a keen amateur quizmaster who will be happy to take charge, and the internet has a wide range of sites providing questions and answers.

Auction of promises

Ask people to make promises depending on their skills, belongings or connections and then get others to come along and bid for things or experiences that money can't always buy. Lots can be all sorts of things such as dog walking for a week, packed lunches made for you for a week, tickets to a local attraction, a ride in a sports car or a tennis lesson.

Social event

Find a venue that you can use free of charge and then have a barbeque, a themed evening or just a party and charge people to attend. You could hold a raffle at the same time and raise even more money.

Just Giving

Once you've thought of something to do, JustGiving can make collecting money for your efforts really easy.  It's simple to set up a fundraising page through JustGiving, and then email a link to all your friends and family.

Anyone with debit or credit card can support you, wherever they are in the world. Our Friends of Asha groups in the UK are registered at www.justgiving.com/friendsofasha, and there is also a USA fundraising page at http://www.firstgiving.com/npo/12202.
