California Asha Fundraiser

Posted: 20/02/2009

On February 15th, 2009, the Yuba City Punjabi Committee for Asha held their second Asha fundraising event. The committee's goal was to raise funds for Asha and to create an awareness of the challenges that slum dwellers face every day of their lives.

Dr. Martin shared a compelling PowerPoint presentation about Asha's efforts to uplift the lives of children and their families that are living in inhumane conditions in the slums. Her powerful and touching words lead to an outpouring of support from approximately 200 people in attendance from all walks of life in Yuba City.

Supervisor Jim Whitaker, in his address to the audience, acknowledged and commended Dr. Martin for her efforts and selfless service to mankind. Supervisor Jim Whitaker was impressed by Dr. Martin's dedication and success. He also presented a cheque on behalf of the Punjab Club of Yuba City High School of which he is the advisor.

The focus for the evening was service to mankind and truly brought the spirit of giving to life. Attendees enjoyed the event and were able to meet and talk to Dr. Martin. Many even pledged to continue supporting Asha's efforts in the future. Furthermore, some attendees talked of visiting and volunteering at a site where Asha projects are underway.

Dr. Martin was once again overwhelmed by the hospitality and generosity for her great cause by the residents of Yuba City. Dr Martin whole-heartedly thanked the organizers and generous donors for supporting Asha and changing the course of life for the children and families of the slums of Delhi, India.

Thank you Asha

Before, there was no electricity, now there is. There were lots of problems before, but now things are much better. Our lives have changed because of Asha and I would like people to be able to learn as we have, to receive all the training that we have, and to be as confident about ourselves as we are.
