On 14th Nov, 52 Asha staff and 74 CHVs (Community Health Volunteers) attended their 5th cancer awareness session. The aim was to make them aware of the symptoms and the cures of different kinds of cancers. Dr. Rakesh Thakur from the IRCH (Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital) in south Delhi, conducted the training.

Dr. Rakesh asked all those attending to complete a questionnaire at the beginning of the session and another one at the end. He compared the results to check the increase in the level of awareness of those attending - the results showed that everyone had been very attentive during the sessions.
"The longer the tumour goes unnoticed, the greater the chance that the cancer has spread, therefore, it is easier to treat and cure the cancer if it is found early", explained Dr. Rakesh.

Camps have been set up in different Asha slums to screen members of the community - we hope no one is found suffering from cancer, but if they are, then the relatively early detection may give them more chance of being cured.
