A two day workshop for the children of the Jeevan Nagar Bal Mandal was held in the Asha centre there last week. The children's group has only been formed in the last two months, but the children are incredibly motivated and keen to learn. The two days were a time of learning and lots of fun for slum children who otherwise do not get the opportunity to study in good schools, and who have few privileges. The workshop provided the opportunity for the children to get involved in constructive activities as they have been roaming around for nearly two months due to their summer holidays. They were given lessons on Child Rights, Importance of Education, Personal Health and Hygiene, and Team Building.

There were 25 and 30 children who attended the program on the 1st and 2nd day respectively, with proportionate numbers of boys and girls there. The children enjoyed the days with lots of games, action songs and group activities in between the lessons. The most enjoyable part of the day was the children sharing and having their lunch together. They listened with great enthusiasm and were not afraid to ask questions whenever they had any doubts about any of the issues being discussed.

The children said how much they enjoyed the workshops and how they'd like to attend this type of programme in the future. They also committed to identifying those children who are not attending schools and encouraging their parents to send them. The quiz session held towards the end of the program enhanced their knowledge very much and they wanted to continue for a longer time, again proving that it would be worthwhile running these workshops in the future.
