The children of Chanderpuri were thrilled to start their computer lessons last week, thanks to the generosity of the Parable Trust. The children's resource centre that was recently refurbished by a team from Llanelli now contains six computers, and the children couldn't wait for the classes to start.

Computers are rarely available for children in government schools. Even if one is provided in a classroom, the pupils are often not allowed to actually use them, so the children were overjoyed with the chance to operate computers themselves.
The children sit at the computers in pairs and a teacher takes three classes each day. They have already mastered the Paint programme, and are now progressing to MS Word.
These new skills will not only improve the children's job opportunities in the future but will also improve their confidence and give them more in common with more privileged children in India.

When Asha first came to my slum I didn't think that they could help - other organisations had been and gone. They stayed, and so I got involved and was trained as a community health volunteer. Now I have more confidence, I help to make changes in my community and I take pride in being able to help others.
