After being greeted at the entrance of the slum she met with members of the children and youth groups including current Class 10, 12 and college students. She talked with them about the academic and personal struggles they face and how Asha will provide assistance so they can pursue their education.
She then spoke with members of the women's group about the achievements they have accomplished in Zakhira, the changes they have seen in the slum in the past few years and the issues they would most like to focus on in the future.
Dr Martin also went on a lane visit through the streets of Zakhira to observe the current slum conditions and the current circumstances of living for people in this particular slum. She was accompanied by Asha Programme Coordinator Dr Krishna Vatsa and Team Leader Shainy. She visited several college students in their homes.

I was very ill and thin because my mother died and my father had TB. Asha staff took it in turns to look after me and gave me the right food to make me better. If they hadn't helped me, I would have died.
