A team of 14 members from St. Stephen's Church led by Libby Etherington visited and renovated Asha's Health Centre and the Children resource centre at Dr. Ambedkar Basti. They painted a fresh coat to the worn out walls of the health centre and a beautiful murals at the children resource centre. The team also visited the community and prayed for the needy persons.

Smt. Barkha Singh, a local MLA and Padmashree Dr. Kiran Martin, Director, Asha inaugurated the renovated centre on 13th Feb.2008 as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.
Mahesh, President of Bal Mandal, extended a warm welcome to the Guests present on the occasion. He highlighted the activities taken up by the children group like spreading messages on health and hygiene, raising awareness on various social issues, organizing rallies and signature campaigns. They also help in identifying malnourished children and inform the mothers about different types of immunizations needed for the child. On behalf of Bal Mandal, he thanked the team for decorating the centre with beautiful pictures.
The treasurer of the Mahila Mandal and CHV Pooja also recollected how Dr. Kiran Martin started the work in the area and how she worked day and night during the cholera epidemic. She also thanked the team for the work done and above all for inspiring them that everything is achievable if they come together.

Local Pradhan shri. Ishwar Singh was also present during the function and in his speech thanked the team who had come all the way from UK crossing over seven seas to give a new look to the centre. He also mentioned that they had not just come to paint but brought their love and affection to the people living in Dr. Ambedkar Basti.
Chief Guest Smt. Barkha Singh, thanked the team for coming to India and volunteering to paint the centre. She applauded the work taken up by Asha and assured that she would always be available whenever required. She also urged the community members to make best use of the opportunities available in the centre.

The hip-shaking dances performed by the children brought all the more joy and meaningful as they expressed their gratitude to the team who had made their resource centre so colorful and beautiful.

Since I’ve been involved with Asha I’ve learnt so much about health and how I can help my neighbours. I’ve also learnt to speak English, and I know how to use computers as well - I have a much better chance of getting a good job when I leave school.
