The landmark 60th Indian Independence Day Anniversary was celebrated with much fanfare in Asha slums on Monday 13th August. Members from Rewari Lines and Kanchan Basti community at Mayapuri gathered in numbers to participate in the celebration. Respected Principal of Kanchan Basti School, Mr Ishwer Chand, presided as the Chief Guest.
The function started with the Flag Hoisting ceremony and the National Anthem was sung with much fervour. Mr. Biswajit on behalf of Asha conducted the proceedings of the day. A background of the freedom struggle starting from India's first fight for Independence in 1857 was narrated by him. After that followed a cultural programme with the children of the community presenting various song and dance items which was enjoyed by one and all.

Towards the end the Principal was invited to address the gathering and had encouraging words for all. He was very pleased with the enthusiastic participation of the community members and also expressed his happiness for the work Asha was doing and pledged his full support and cooperation for the continued success of the programmes at the Mayapuri CBHC.
