Mentoring Success

Posted: 15/01/2009

The new mentoring programme is off to a flying start. In 2008 Asha helped 30 students from Delhi slums successfully negotiate the college application process to be admitted to some of the country's best universities.

In a bid to expand the number of slum children admitted to college this year, Asha has enlisted the help of last year's successful students to mentor the younger members of their communities.

The mentors have been meeting with high school students to help them to prepare for the transition from high school to university. The mentors are so enthusiastic that they are even competing among themselves to see who can help the most students get into university.

Thank you Asha

We had been working with Asha to improve our slum for many years, but our homes were destroyed as the government needed the land. Asha helped us to get land allocated somewhere new and now, 4 years later, our area has water supplies, electricity, schools and healthcare.
