Graeme Waters, the New Zealand High Commissioner, and Charles Chauvel, Member of Parliament for New Zealand's Labour party, visited both Asha's headquarters and a nearby slum yesterday.
The visitors spent time talking to Ekta Vihar's Mahila Mandal (women's group) and also saw children using computers and the library in a resource centre within the slum. Following this, they were shown around the slum and visited the homes of some residents.
The High Commissioner is a committed supporter of Asha's work and has recently arranged for the provision of computers for that slum. Mr Chauvel is fairly new to Delhi and was very interested to learn about Asha's health, empowerment and development programmes. Both visitors enjoyed being shown round Ekta Vihar and expressed how pleased they were to see the impact of Asha's programmes there.

My own parents married me off at the age of 13 so I had no education. Asha gave me the training and equipment to earn money and care for my children. I’m not dependent on my husband or sons and I’m saving for the future as well.
