A large group from the River Church in Marlow, UK, visited Asha for 3 days last week. There were 12 adults and 5 children, ranging in age from just 5 to sixty-something! The group visited Mayapuri and Zakhira slums, attended the Asha Easter celebration and ran craft workshops with children at Mayapuri. The workshops were very well received with the delighted children getting to keep the t-shirts that they had painted during the session.
One of the team, Linda Southwood, has been a supporter of Asha’s work for around 10 years. She visited Mayapuri 5 years ago and was thrilled to witness the remarkable improvements to the slum since then. Over the years, and with Asha’s help, lanes between the slum dwellings have been paved, water tanks and pumps have been installed and many of the residents have houses built from bricks where they were once made from tarpaulins, rags and other waste materials.
The group also visited Zakhira and the poverty of that area had a big impact on the team, with many of them shocked at the conditions. However, having seen Asha’s staff and the women’s and children’s groups in action, the group are confident that dramatic improvements will be seen in time, just as they have been in Mayapuri.

I’m now so keen to learn that I will sit and listen to doctors whenever I get the chance. I’m busy all the time, delivering babies, giving lectures and training volunteers.
