Today we saw proof of the great need for the free treatment as people from slums in many areas of the city flocked to our Polyclinic in South Delhi.
These are people who would otherwise not be able to pay to receive treatment in private hospitals, and who may wait a long time for inadequate medical care in poorly-equipped government hospitals. Seeking treatment at these hospitals would involve taking time off work, something that is not a viable option due to their low incomes.
I grew up in a slum area, but Asha helped me to understand the importance of education. I've worked hard in school for years, and Asha gave me books and extra tuition when I needed it. Now I'm in engineering college! It's a dream come true for me.
