The Minister of the Environment of Japan, Mr Sakihito Ozawa, was warmly welcomed at Asha on 20th October at 11am. He was greeted by Dr Kiran Martin, the Founder and Director of Asha, and a large crowd of slum dwellers, as well as the Asha staff at the Asha headquarters. He spent some time listening to a talk by Dr Martin on Asha's work.

Mr. Ozawa showed extreme interest and asked many important questions. He then visited a slum colony and had a lively and productive interaction with the young people who have recently been admitted to Delhi University. He also spent time talking to the women of the women's group and the children of the children's association. He heard many stories from them on how the community has been so radically transformed over the years through the work of Asha.

Over the last years I've learnt so much. Now I'm studying at Delhi University, and I'm hoping to be a journalist. Thanks to Asha, I have the kind of life and opportunities that most people in slums would never dream of.
