Yesterday, 24th August'07, the Mahila Mandal (women's group) Treasurers from all Asha slums met at the Asha office in south Delhi for a detailed Accounts training session. The session was run by Mrs Ajita and Mr Jai Prakash from Asha's accounts department.

The training lasted all day and covered important topics such as maintaining a cash book, billing, filing vouchers, preparing a ledger and maintaining other books of accounts.
After the training, the Mahila Mandal women sat with the team leaders of their slums to practise posting accounts entries. They remained attentive and enthusiastic all day, and the results of the practice session proved that they were all set to maintain their books of accounts accurately.

I despaired when I came to Delhi and had to live in a slum hut for shelter. I couldn't see how things would improve, but Asha's training has given me the confidence to lead others and work as a group to make changes. Now I enjoy helping other women who were once like me see how things can be so much better.
