Volunteers visit British High Commission

Posted: 03/03/2009

"It is like an oasis in desert", said one of the team members after seeing the lawns of British High Commission. Yes indeed it was! A total shift from the dusty and crampy slum lanes to the vast and beautiful green lawns of the British High Commission.

Ms Wendy Butler, wife of British Deputy High Commissioner in India invited the members of St. Stephen's Church Twickenham and Methodist College Belfast for tea at the High Commission. The members spent their time relaxing and interacting with each other about their experiences and challenges they came across in the slums. It was a complete relief from their hectic schedules of painting, visiting people and conducting workshops in the slums of Delhi. Mrs Butler played a perfect host by personally going up to each member asking about their experiences in India and at the same time encouraging and applauding their efforts to reach out to the poor and the needy.

Ms Amanda Clegg and Ms Ruth Mckibbin thanked Mrs Butler on behalf of the two teams for taking her time out to be with them. It was an encouraging moment for all the members.

Thank you Asha

The best thing about the loan scheme is how quickly people have seen benefits, whether they are able to earn more or improve their homes...The direct relationship with the banks helps them a lot, and I'm glad to have been part of it.
