World Health Day: Celebrate Good Health!

Posted: 07/04/2010

This year, under the "1000 cities - 1000 lives" campaign, cities across the world are being asked to open up their streets for health activities. Here at Asha, we have a few simpler suggestions for celebrating. In fact, we dare you...

To save your cab fare - walk to work.

To pass on the pricey cream-filled coffee, or turn down a sugary cocktail.

To un-supersize your lunch, or skip on that offer of extra bacon or cheese...

To give your own health a break...and then pass on the favour!

For just $5US or €4 - the money you could potentially save by doing one of the above - you could:

Ensure a child full medical care for the entire month.

Give a Community Health Volunteer a week's worth of medical supplies.

Vaccinate a child against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis.

Or provide 3 kids with enough Vitamin A to prevent them from going blind.

This World Health Day, help yourself - but don't just stop there.

At Asha, we want you to stay healthy. And we're working to help others stay that way too.

Thank you Asha

I was very ill and thin because my mother died and my father had TB. Asha staff took it in turns to look after me and gave me the right food to make me better. If they hadn't helped me, I would have died.
